Many employees spend their lunch breaks eating 'al desko' - eating at their desks while working (and often distressing their colleagues with pungent food choices).
Offensive smells aside, the importance of taking a break and its benefits on employees' wellbeing and productivity should not be underestimated. Managers should encourage their staff to take their lunch breaks to promote a healthier workplace environment.
"The driver is not about annoying your colleagues, it's about staff wellbeing. It's hugely important for people and therefore an organisation's productivity to have a chance to reset mentally; to make sure you're thinking clearly and not making decisions while tired."
